In computing, a display or computer monitor is a device that displays visual information and graphics generated by a computer. The display is an essential component of a computer system, as it provides a means for users to interact with the computer and receive visual feedback.
There are several types of computer displays, including cathode ray tube (CRT), liquid crystal display (LCD), organic light-emitting diode (OLED), and light-emitting diode (LED). CRT displays were once the most common type of display, but they have largely been replaced by flat-panel displays, such as LCD and LED displays, due to their lower power consumption, thinner form factor, and superior image quality.
Display resolution refers to the number of pixels that a display can display horizontally and vertically. The higher the display resolution, the more detail can be displayed on the screen. Displays also come in different sizes, typically measured diagonally from corner to corner.
In addition to being an output device, the display may also be used as an input device, such as in touch screen displays, which allow users to interact with the computer by touching the screen. Some displays also come with additional features, such as built-in webcams or speakers.
